The Radar Museum in Horning, Norfolk is a hidden gem that is housed in the original Grade II listed 1942 radar operations building. Run by volunteers, this visitor attraction is suitable for the whole family and well worth a visit.
Learn about the early development of radar and the role of RAF Neatishead in the Cold War with organised talks. Hear about the history of Air Intercept and look at the WW2 Airborne Radars and models of the early and latest Air Intercept Aircraft. Visitors can sit in a Jaguar and Tornado cockpit and get a feel of what it was like to fly a Jaguar, by using a head up display. View the vast array of artefacts that the museum houses and their new acquisition, the Victor K2 cockpit.
The radar museum is deceptively spacious, covering a large area, which isn’t obvious when you first arrive. In addition to its 20 exhibition areas there are outside exhibits, a café, a museum shop, free talks and disabled access to most areas. The museum volunteers are extremely knowledgeable and informative and make the visit a truly fascinating and memorable experience.
Admission for adults is £10.00, over 60s is £9.00 and students are £5.00. Children 6yrs - 16yrs are £5.00. A family ticket (2 adults and up to 3 children) is £25. Under 6s are FREE.
However, in October 2018 admission for children that are accompanied by an adult, is free; so, this month is a great time to visit the museum. Between Tuesday 16th October and Wednesday 31st October 2018 the museum has a children’s Spooky Trail for Halloween - clue sheets cost £2.50 and there is a prize at the end of the trail.
If you are looking for somewhere different to visit and want an all-weather venue for a rainy day in Norfolk, go to the RAF Air Defence Radar Museum, you will be pleasantly surprised by what’s there.
